Pubgolf website - The issues
The pubgolf website was set up origionally in 2001 using dreamweaver. It is hosted in a static website with TSOHost.
I’m featured in some of the pictures but don’t look so closely as they are not pretty!
The page did rank quite highly with google and brought in a bit in advertising revenue. Which was nice. However the google ranking algorithim has changed several times since then and they now don’t like the site do much.
Site Issues
- Non-responsive
- Not updated very often
- old version of google advertising code
- Pubgolf game card uses a 1999 word .doc as a free template
Solution
I intend to migrate the site to AWS
- Move the dns to Route 53
- move the current content to an S3 bucket
- Set this up to use static hosting
- Redesign the website to use a responsive template.
- Create a form to allow entry of the 9 pubs in a round of pubgolf then use an AWS lambda function to create a pdf scorecard.
I intend to blog / document the steps taken to get this up and running. Hopefully I might get a wee bit of advertising revenue generated once it is up and running on AWS while also demonstrating some of the skills I have with AWS tools.
